Backcountry Lodge Ski Guiding 2010
The backcountry of British Columbia is full of ski lodges, with powder skiing galore just waiting for you. I will be the skiing at Valkyr Adventures again this winter and have added a trip to Sorcerer Lodge. Sign up now, these spots go fast!
Sorcerer Lodge; February 6-13, 2010
Sorcerer Lodge is a longtime favourite backcountry ski destination. Located just east of the famous Rogers Pass in the Selkirk Mountains, Sorcerer is known for its varied ski terrain and consistent, deep snowfalls. It has excellent tree and glacier skiing and in good weather we are able to ski up several peaks in the area.
Difficulty: If you have a regular fitness routine, are comfortable skiing on intermediate runs at your local ski area and have skied in powder snow before you should be able to enjoy this ski touring week. Two guides allow us a lot of flexibility in splitting the group up if necessary, so different ability levels can be accommodated.
Trip length: 8 days.
Dates: February 6-13, 2010
Price: C$2100. This includes helicopter shuttle in and out of the lodge, 2 certified guides, accommodation, and all meals. 5% GST is extra.
New this year is this 4 day hut to hut trip in the beautiful Tonquin Valley in Jasper National Park. The first night we ski to the Cavell Hostel beneath the north face of Mt Edith Cavell. This hostel is only accessible on skis in the winter. The next day we continue on to the comfortable Tonquin Amethyst Lake Lodge for two nights. This allows us to explore the high alpine meadows and rocky peaks that characterise this area. On the last day we return to the road via Maccarib Pass and Portal Creek giving us fantastic views of the area we have been skiing in for the previous few days. Erica Roles will be leading this trip.
Difficulty: This trip is appropriate for fit skiers used to a full day of cross country skiing. Downhill powder skiing skills will not be required. The Wapta Traverse would be a similar sort of trip.
Dates: March 19-22, 2010.
Price: C$975. This includes guiding, accommodation and food. It does not include 5% GST tax.
